John Mellor was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Mellor, of 31 York Street, Hasland, Chesterfield. He attended the college from 1915 – 1917, being transferred to Chester Training College to complete his training after the outbreak of war.
John was a Private in the 8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers and died on 3 August 1916, age 20. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in the Somme region of France, having no known grave.
