John Patrick Driscoll was born in 1884 to Dennis and Alice Driscoll of 64 Marle Hill Road, Cheltenham.
He became a Private in the 2/4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment in February 1916. John died on 27 August 1917, age 33, whilst fighting in the battle of Langemarck in the Ypres region. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial. The photograph shows him while training on Salisbury Plain before embarking for the Western Front. John’s brother Frank Maurice Driscoll also died during the conflict.
