John Pirrie Eager had been a pupil at the Practising School, living at 10 Victoria Street.

He joined the 3rd Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment as a Private and was killed at the battle of St Julien on 2 May 1915. The only John Eager listed in the Practising School admission registers was born in August 1898, suggesting he was just 16 when he died. He had left school to work as an errand boy at the Home and Colonial Stores. John is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, having no known grave.
