Percy Goddard Garraway was born in Buckinghamshire but later moved to Cheltenham with his parents James and Susan, living at 7 Marle Hill Parade. Percy worked at Gloucester Waggon Works before emigrating to Winnipeg, Canada with his sister.
He enlisted as a Rifleman in the 8th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Winnipeg Rifles). He arrived on the Western Front in 1915 but was able to visit Cheltenham where he married his wife Maude. On returning to France, Percy was shot and fatally wounded in the abdomen, chest, right arm and shoulder. He died on 12 November 1917, aged 31.
