Philip Oswald Clarke was originally from Leicester and attended Cheltenham Training College from 1905 – 1907. He was the son of John Farmer and Elizabeth Clarke and his wife was called Louise.
He was a Private in the “B” Squadron Leicestershire Yeomanry who died on 2 June 1916, age 29. He is buried at Hucqueliers Churchyard in France, one of only two identified service personnel, against the south hedge. His headstone reads “Sans peur et sans reproche – In loving memory of my dear husband”, meaning “without fear and without reproach”.
