Raymond Edwin Fryer was born on 9 May 1885 and lived at 18 Brunswick Street with his father Thomas. He attended the Practising School from 1891, and later married and moved to Pendrance Cottage, Queen’s Retreat, Cheltenham.

Raymond joined the 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment as a Private before transferring to the 12th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. He died on 6 November 1917 while fighting in Belgium. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
