Reuben Mitchell was born in Bradford to Reuben Sr. and Sarah. He attended Cheltenham Training College from 1912 – 1914 where he was also a member of the rugby team.

Reuben became a Sergeant in the 2nd Special Company Royal Engineers and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty under fire. He died on 6 April 1917 age 24 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi, Pas de Calais.
