Sidney George Vallender lived at 49 Marle Hill Parade with his wife Florence and worked at the Gloucestershire Echo before being conscripted into the army.
He joined the 15th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles as a Private and was sent to the Ypres sector. Sidney was killed by a shell explosion whilst unloading ammunition on 17 April 1918. He was 29 years old. He is buried at Bard Cottage Cemetery where his headstone reads “Thy Will Be Done”.
