Walter Edward Jones lived at 38 Winstonian Road when he enlisted in the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.

He travelled to France in 1915 and earned the rank of Corporal. On 19th August 1918 he and his fellow comrades were attempting to break the Hindenburg Line when they were subjected to hostile artillery. Walter died that day and is buried at Sailly Labourse Cemetery. He left a widow, Jenny, in Cheltenham.
