William Archie Beaman had been a pupil teacher at Crabbs Cross Council School in Redditch before joining the 1913 – 1915 year group. He was a member of the Troy house group, and left college before taking his final exam when he enlisted in January 1915.
William became a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry. He was fighting in Belgium when he was killed on 10 April 1918, age 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. William left behind his parents, James and Maria, who lived at “Spring Vale”, Worcester Road, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire.
