William Crofts attended Crumpsall Lane Mixed School in Manchester before joining the 1912 – 1914 year group. He was a member of the Troy house group while in Cheltenham.
William went on to become a Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was fighting in Northern France when he died on 5 December 1917 at the age of 24. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval. His parents James and Isabella lived at “Mam-Tor”, Eastwood Mains Road, Giffnock, Renfrewshire.
