William Edward Perkins came from Shrewsbury, and attended the Cheltenham Training College between 1911 – 1913. He belonged to the Nineveh house group while training here to be a teacher. He was the son of William and Alice Perkins, who lived at 83 Coleham, Shrewsbury.
William enlisted as a Private in the 1/28th Battalion London Regiment (Artists’ Rifles), and went to fight in Belgium. He was killed on 30 October 1917 at the age of 24. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
