William George Harker worked as a plumber and gas fitter for Mr McVitie in Ambrose Street along with Thomas Grinnell. He lived with his wife Louisa and five children at 11 St Paul’s Terrace.

William had spent three years fighting in France as a Private in the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and was about to be drafted home when he died of pneumonia on 22 July 1918 at the age of 40. He is buried at St Sever British Cemetery where his headstone reads “Father In Thy Gracious Keeping, Leave We Now Our Loved One Sleeping”.
