William Hope Jones was a student at Cheltenham Training College from 1910 – 1912. He was attended Newport Church of England School in Staffordshire and was the son of James and Ellen Jones, of Wrockwardine Wood, Staffordshire.

He was a Lance Sergeant in the 3rd Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment, who died on 20 December 1915, age 25. He is buried at Wimereux Communal Cemetery, France, and his headstone reads “Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for a friend”.
