William Knight was born in 1894 to William and Sarah Ann Knight of Gotherington. Prior to the war he was employed at Cavendish House on the Promenade which was then a furnishers.

He was serving as a Private in the 7th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment when he was sent to Gallipoli in July 1915. He was evacuated to the island of Lemnos (now Limnos) after suffering from dysentery and died on the 7 December 1915, age 21. He is buried in the Portianos Military Cemetery on the island. His headstone reads “Not dead but gone before. RIP”.
