William Thomas Cossens was born in 1886, the son of Robert Cossens of 19 North Place, Cheltenham.

He enlisted as a Private in the 1st/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and died, aged 30, on 23 July 1916 during the Battle of Delville Wood. He is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L’Abbe where his headstone reads “Beautiful memory left behind”.
