Arthur William Wellington was the son of David and Florence Wellington of 5 Gratton Street, Cheltenham. He was born on 10 December 1921. Arthur attended St Paul’s Practising School from April 1934 – December 1936. He also sang in the local choir at St James’s Church. After leaving school he worked for George Hooper printers in Suffolk Parade before being conscripted into the army in 1941.

Arthur served as a Private in the 2/5th Battalion Royal Leicestershire Regiment when he died fighting in Italy on 16 November 1944, aged 22. He is buried at Forli War Cemetery where his grave is marked by a cross.
