Bernard George William Clinton was a student at St Paul’s Training College from 1929-1931. He was a monitor in the house group Ephesus, and Sports editor for ‘The Chelt’ magazine. Bernard played for the 1st Rugby team. A description from the Spring 1931 Chelt describes “B. W. Clinton. Wing three-quarter; sturdy of build, a strong runner. A fine tackler; safe with his hands; has a strong kick which he uses very little. Runs hard for the line, but lacks the finesse of footwork to slip his man by a feint”.
Bernard was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy when he was killed on 1 January 1944. He is commemorated at Bari War Cemetery.
