Cecil James Constable was the son of James and Alice Constable of The Poplars, Shurdington Road, Cheltenham. He was born on 6 April 1915 and educated at St Pauls Practising School from March 1921 to May 1924. Cecil went on to work as a salesman for Grove Garages Ltd, High Street and College Road, Cheltenham.
Prior to him joining the army he was a pre-war territorial soldier then serving in the 2nd Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. Sapper Constable was killed in battle during the North African campaign on 13 December 1941 aged 26. With no known grave, he is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial to the missing.
