Frank Edward Booy was born on 29 September 1919, the son of George and Ethel Booy of 41a St Pauls Street North Cheltenham. Frank was educated at St Pauls Practising School from March 1928 to March 1934, when he left to work at Brockwall Aerodrome. Before the outbreak of war, he joined the Civil Air Guard which was made up of those who held private pilot licences and had their own aircraft. When war was declared, he volunteered for active service with the RAF and trained as a Pilot Officer.
Frank Booy aged 23, was declared missing on the night of 10 April 1943 after the bomber failed to return from a mission to the industrial centres of the Ruhr, Germany. He is commemorated on the RAF Memorial to the missing at Runnymede and on the Borough of Cheltenham War Memorial. He left a brother, Derrick Booy.
