George Dennis Barrow was born on 15 May 1920, the son of Mr and Mrs Reginald Barrow. He lived at 254 High Street Cheltenham and attended St Pauls Practising School from August 1932 to August 1934, where after he took up employment with Dowty Equipment Ltd. George was conscripted in 1944 and served with the Gloucestershire Regiment, he volunteered for Airborne forces and was transferred to the 12th (Airborne) Battalion, where he held the rank of Private. 

The Devonshire Regiment took part in Operation “Varsity” the crossing of the river Rhine in March 1945. George died at Hamminkeln while consolidating their position on higher ground on the 26 March 1945 aged 24. He is buried at Reichswald Forrest War Cemetery and is commemorated on the Borough of Cheltenham War Memorial. He left a widow and one child.
