George Richard Saunders was a teacher training student at St Paul’s College from 1930-1932.
He joined 228 Squadron of the Royal Air Force as a Pilot Officer Observer and was on the Sunderland flying boat carrying the Duke of Kent when it crashed over Scotland killing all but one person on board on 25 August 1942. He left behind a wife, Evelyn, living in Cheltenham. George is buried at Sheffield (Handsworth New) Cemetery.
