James Herbert Morris, son of William John and Elizabeth Morris, was born on 6 January 1914. He lived at Cloubrock House, St Margarets Road, and Elmwood, Lyefield Road, Charlton Kings. He was educated at St Pauls Practising School from August 1920 – July 1925, then Central School, Gloucester Road. Upon leaving education James took up employment at Messrs Sharpe & Fisher, Builders and Merchants.

He was conscripted in the Royal Army Service Corps and posted to Malaya in 1941. Private Morris was killed in action on 13 February 1942, aged 28. The exact circumstances of death are unrecorded. He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial to the missing. His name appears on a stone tablet at St. Marys Church Charlton Kings and on the Roll of Honour Scroll of the Central School, now preserved at Bournside School, Cheltenham.
