Lynn Gregory was born on 15 October 1907, the son of Harold and Mary Gregory. He lived at 50 Leighton Road and later 45 Brooklyn Road, Cheltenham. Gregory was educated at St Pauls Practising from September 1915 to December 1919, then at the Central School from 1919 to 1923. He gained an apprenticeship with the RAF at 16 in the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment.

Squadron Leader Gregory served in Iraq, Egypt and India. He was accidently killed while participating in a test flight over Enford Ranges, Wiltshire on 25 July 1945 aged 37. Lynn Gregory is buried at Little Rissington (St Peter) Churchyard and commemorated on the Roll of Honour of the Central School, now preserved at Bournside School. The headstone reads Remembering the life, love and laughter of a gallant English gentlemen. He left a widow and two daughters.
