Maurice Arthur Stagg trained to be a teacher at St Paul’s College from 1935-1937. His College nickname was “Twister” and his parents were Harry and Elizabeth Stagg.

Maurice became a Captain in the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment and served with the Chindits, a special operations group of the British and Indian Armies active in Burma. He died on 23 June 1944 aged 28 and is buried at Taukkyan War Cemetery. His headstone reads “Sleep on, secure. Above control, thy thoughts, Belong to Heaven and thee”.
