William Henry Morgan, son of Fredrick and Florence, was born on 13 December 1917 and lived at “Hirwain”, Cromwell Road, Cheltenham. He was educated at Dunalley Street School, St Pauls Practising School from April 1925 – September 1928, then gained a scholarship to Cheltenham Grammar School. He was fine athlete, becoming School Athletics Captain and representing his school at the Public-School Sports Meeting held at White City.  

He volunteered immediately upon the outbreak of war, receiving a commission in 1940 and rising to the rank of Captain in 1943 serving in the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps. While on night patrol within the Anzio bridgehead that Captain Morgan was reported missing, later declared killed in action on 19 March 1944, aged 26. He is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial in Italy. He left a widow, Muriel Morgan who he married in 1941.
