Start-up for Creatives course – Bringing your ideas to life!

Do What You Love!
Working for yourself, freelancing or running a business is an experience of a lifetime. It’s a creative experience. It’s an intellectual experience. It’s an exhilarating endurance experience. If you are thinking of turning your passion into your life’s work then this start-up course is for you.

When is the course?
The course is made up of three workshops running on Saturday 29th September, Saturday 6th & Saturday 13th October, from 10am-2pm each day. Attendance at all three of the workshops is essential.

Who is this course for?
This inspiring start-up course is for you if…
– You’re practising or studying in the creative arts
– You’re wondering how you can earn a living from your talents
– You have a creative business idea you’re itching to turn into reality
– You’re in full time work and have ambitions to work for yourself
– You’re based in Gloucestershire.

What will I do during the course?
Day 1: Create your Brand Story – putting the essence of who you are (and what you do) into words that form the heart and soul of your brand, its content and marketing messages.

Day 2: Business Model You – reinvent yourself and your career using a visual one-page tool to explore new ways your skills can be adapted to the changing needs of the marketplace to reveal new, more satisfying, career and life possibilities.

Day 3: Action is the foundational key to all success – develop an effective action plan to take your ideas to the next level. You’ll also get to hear some hints and tips from fellow creatives who’ve started up themselves.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet and work with like-minded creative entrepreneurs, and by the end of the course you’ll have developed clear next steps for taking your ideas forward.

Who is delivering the course?
Thw workshops will be run by Julie Ellison MBA, Director of Make It Studios – Stroud’s newest shared workspace. You’ll also benefit from a range of guest speakers from the creative industries.

You will also hear from Rachel Savage from Brand New Story, who harnesses the power of storytelling to help people create brands and stories that speak from the heart, stand head and shoulders above the competition and know their purpose. Using some of Hollywood’s not-so-secret scriptwriting tools, Rachel’s flagship two-day workshop is called Create Your Story.

There may also be short talks and input from academics from the School of Art & Design at University of Gloucestershire, and other creatives who run their own businesses.

Where is it held?
The series is taking place in the unique setting of the Sabrina 5 – one of the largest boat venues in the National Waterways Museum’s collection, and part of the National Historic Fleet! The dry boat is located at the Museum in Gloucester Quays.
