Global Entrepreneurship Week, 12-18th Nov, is a chance to celebrate everything enterprise; providing inspiration for the next generation of start-ups and entrepreneurs!

At UoG, we are running a week of drop-in lunchtime roadshows around the campuses, and a full day of workshops and networking, for students to find out about the support available for setting up their own business, social enterprise or freelance career.

The week is being run by UoG project Start and Grow Enterprise, along with The Growth Hub, GRIP, GAINS, School of Business and Technology, Your Future Plan team, and inspiring businesses and mentors. The week will end with an exciting two-day weekend start-up course, to explore and launch your ideas.

Schedule for the week:

Drop-in roadshows – ask staff any questions you may have about starting a business and we’ll let you know about the help that’s available to you. Days and times are below.

Schedule for Wednesday 14th November at The Growth Hub, Oxstalls:

10-11am: Workshop#1 – ‘Being an Entrepreneur’, Rm 8, 1st floor of the Growth Hub. Hear from someone who has done it! Nik Venios is a successful entrepreneur who runs his own innovation agency BEAF.com. Nik has an inspiring story, lots of useful advice and even opportunities for students to get involved!

11-2pm: Marketplace & networking – on the 1st floor of the Growth Hub. Find out about starting your own business or freelance career and the support on offer at UoG! Come and meet the teams, projects and businesses that can help you get started or progress to the next step with your venture.

1-2pm: Enterprise workshop – ‘Communication” Skills’, Oxstalls.
Communication skills for the digital age. In today’s ‘7 second world’ – that’s the length of your attention span in a digital domain – communication skills that say the right thing in the right way, are vital. Forget what you think you know and come and learn how to communicate all over again. Led by Vassil Rachkov and Paul Matthews from the Business School.

2.15-3.30pm: Workshop #2 – ‘Starting a Business’, Rm 8, 1st floor. Do you want to know more about what starting a business involves? Do you have an idea for a business that you’d like to explore? Come along to this workshop which will cover the basics of setting up your own enterprise, acting as a taster for the full Start-up Weekend course that’s happening at the weekend.

3.45-5pm: Workshop #3 – ‘Social Entrepreneurship’, Rm 8, 1st floor. What does it take to start your own social enterprise or project? Be inspired, connect with others, and make a difference with advice and encouragement from social enterprise expert and business adviser Julie Ellison.

5.30-7.30pm: ‘Entrepreneurs’ Network Event’, Rm 8, 1st floor.
Open to all. Join us for a friendly and useful evening of networking with start-ups and other would-be entrepreneurs, hear an inspiring talk and make connections! Refreshments are provided.
