Getting Into Good Trouble: Activist Research and Femicide

The Lecture

In her inaugural lecture, Jane will discuss what it means to her to use research in campaigning.

Activist researchers seek to have impact from their work that is measurable, but measuring anything in the social sciences however, is fraught with difficulty and complexity. It will inevitably mean taking a strong position.

Sometimes taking a strong position can get you into trouble, but in her opinion that can be ‘good trouble’. Jane will talk about her personal journey working in homicide, and how her work with the police and bereaved families has been difficult, sometimes deeply distressing, but with clear moments for celebration.

She will conclude by illustrating how her work is certainly having impact in ways she could not have foreseen.
