A snapshot in time: two teacher training students from the University of Gloucestershire’s predecessor colleges, St Paul’s and St Mary’s, married in 1849


The university’s Archives were approached by a lady in Australia, who wanted to know if we held in our collections, any records of the early days of the colleges. She had been told that her Great, Great, Great Grandparents studied to become teachers in Cheltenham. Having found the Admissions Registers for 1849 for St Paul’s College (male) and St Mary’s College (female), we were delighted to give her confirmation of their registration as students.
