On October 12th 2012 a group of Landscape Architecture students spent the day at Hidcote Manor Gardens as part of the second year module ‘Field Week’. The module creates the opportunity to visit, record, analyse and experience a variety of high quality pieces of landscape design, either nationally or internationally.

We were lucky enough to be given an introduction to, and tour of, the gardens by the Head Gardener Glynn Jones, who recently appeared in the BBC documentary about Hidcote Manor Gardens.

The students spent the day sketching and recording aspects of the landscape at Hidcote, as well as exploring the history and management of the garden.

After lunch (in the pub in Chipping Campden) we visited the Ernest Wilson Memorial Garden – a garden based entirely on the plant species that Ernest ‘Chinese’ Wilson collected on his travels as a Plant Hunter.
