Michele Lavelle of 4DLD teaching on Masters Design module

Michele Lavelle delivered the first of her six sessions on the Masters level Landscape Design Studio module this week. Michele, founder of the landscape architecture practice 4D Landscape Design in Stokes Croft, Bristol, is teaching about the use, design and specification of plants as part of this module. Michele began her career studying Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire so it is great to have her back as a visiting lecturer.

The first session introduced the practice itself and looked at their portfolio of work – examples below regarding their work in the areas of healthcare, education and art.

The session focused on the use of planting at a masterplanning scale – the basic structure planting for a particular site. In addition to this Michele also introduced various key groups that support the use of trees in the design of urban areas including TDAG – the Tree Design and Action Group. Michele will be supporting the module throughout the year teaching aspects of site scale planting design; detailed planting design; planting plans, specification and scheduling; as well as introducing aspects of procurement and links with plant nurseries.
