Graduate News: Suzanne Coucher

Following my graduation from the Landscape Architecture course in 2007 I made the move to Dorset and joined Coe Design, a small design studio. During this role I gained valuable experience in multi-disciplinary working, complex problem solving and overseeing projects on site. I worked on a number of projects in education, public realm and master-planning in both the UK and Middle East.

In 2010 I gained my chartered status and the following year I relocated to my hometown in Yorkshire and worked on a freelance basis. At the beginning of 2013 I relocated to London and I now work for Farrer Huxley Associates where I am enjoying working on a large-scale public realm scheme which is being built over three construction phases. This project is providing me with great experience in detail design and soon to be on site. In addition to this, I have been able to build upon my experience in LVIA, playscapes and gain new skills such as signage design and wayfinding strategies.

What do I like best about being a landscape architect?
Each day is different and the varied nature of work enables me to develop a broad skill set and knowledge base. I enjoy getting to travel and work with a whole range of different people from project to project. Ultimately, landscape architecture provides opportunity to influence the design and quality of our external environments which has the power to enable social and environmental change.
