Laboratory soil analysis
4th November 2021
Texture and pH are important attributes of soils, determining infiltration capacity and availability of plant nutrients, among other things, arguably very relevant information for landscape architects determining suitable planting schedules. Analysis of various local soils was undertaken this week to try to relate mineralogy and acid reaction (pH) to topographic origin. The first year students (on the appraising landscape module) succeeded in testing such theory and the five key soil samples matched to the appropriate Gloucestershire landscape (see section).
