This week Rachel Trezise, one of the young stars of the contemporary British Literature scene, came in to speak with students on our Creative Writing programme here at the University of Gloucestershire. Rachel is a novelist, short story author, journalist, and playwright. For her first novel, In And Out of the Goldfish Bowl, she was placed on the Orange Futures List alongside then-rising stars Sarah Waters and Zadie Smith. Rachel’s second book, the story collection Fresh Apples, won the prestigious EDS Dylan Thomas prize – earning her £60,000 for the best book in the world by an author under 30. Since then she has published two more books, and written a radio play for BBC4. In his WT200 class, Tyler Keevil interviewed Rachel about her work and career, including how she got her start in the publishing industry. She also gave a reading from Fresh Apples and answered questions from the undergrad students. Thanks very much to Rachel for coming in, and to all the students who attended and helped make her visit such a success.
