UG Creative Writing Lecturer Wins Short Story Competition
17th February 2013
University of Gloucestershire Creative Writing lecturer, Tyler Keevil, has won 1st prize in the Cinnamon Press Short Story Awards for his story ‘Reaching Out.’
Cinnamon is the publisher of, among others, Stephen May, Matthew Francis, and ex-University of Gloucestershire lecturer, Kate North. The independent press runs the competition bi-annually to showcase short fiction talent. Tyler’s winning story is set on Vancouver’s North Shore, and is narrated by a reclusive forestry worker who picks up a hitchhiker trying to get down from Mount Seymour. The odd behaviour of both characters – and the contents of the hitcher’s backpack – make for a tense and unnerving reading experience.
The story will be published along with the other shortlisted entries in a paperback anthology this September.
