The acclaimed American professor Jack Zipes will be delivering a public lecture – The Grimness of Contemporary Fairy Tales – at FCH Campus on Wednesday 20th November. Zipes is famous for his brilliant Marxist and feminist analyses of fairy tales, so if some things about the stories of your childhood have always puzzled you – like, why is Little Red Riding Hood named after the protagonist’s hat!? – then you’ll find much to interest and enlighten you in Zipes’ lecture.  His talk will focus on contemporary fairy tales, poems, novels and graphic books in order to discuss the peculiar enduring appeal that the Grimm tales have for contemporary authors and what this means for the fairy tale genre. The event is from 19:30-20:30 in TC001. Tickets are free for university students, but you should book your place in advance: see here for more information, and click here to reserve tickets.
