alarm girlLast month, we were fortunate enough to have Myriad Editions editor Holly Ainley visit our course, along with established playwright and debut novelist Hannah Vincent, author of Alarm Girl.  Students on our BA and MA programmes had the opportunity to sit in on an interview session and ask questions about novel writing, breaking into the industry, and Myriad’s First Drafts Competition.

LaylaThe session brought to an end this year’s guest speaker series, which is an established annual feature of our course, and embedded in the modules HM6101: The Writing Business and HM7106: The Creative Industries.  Other speakers this year included novelist Nina De La Mer, who spoke about receiving an Arts Council of England grant to work on her acclaimed second novel, Layla, as well as UoG alumni Chaucer Cameron, who is collaborating with filmmaker Helen Dewbury in the new and innovative field of video poetry.  Stunning examples of their work can be found on their website, The Elephant’s Footprint.

Thank you very much to these speakers for taking part in the series, and thanks to all the students who came along, took part, and made our guests feel welcome.  We’re already lining up more industry professionals for next year’s series – so watch this space for details.
