NSS scores Creative Writing

July is the time when universities in the UK find out how well they have done in the previous year, in the opinion of the only people who really count and that’s the students.

Yes, we’re talking about the National Student Survey scores. We are beyond delighted to announce that the Creative Writing team at the University of Gloucestershire has excelled in this year’s NSS scores with a student satisfaction rate of a staggering 91%.

We are over the moon! This fantastic score reflects the enormous commitment of our staff towards our students, towards their learning, their wellbeing and their overall university experience.

It’s an understatement to say that we have all worked under difficult conditions this year. And our students have studied under staggeringly tough conditions, too. However, University of Gloucestershire is a place where staff and students form a tight community, where we know each student by their name and will always go the extra mile for them. Working as such a close-knit team has helped both them and us to successfully get through these difficult times.

Despite all the challenges of online teaching and lockdown, 100% agreed with the statement “I have been able to contact staff when I needed to”. Time is our most valuable resource and the one we most readily spend on our students, and it’s brilliant to see this recognised. And let’s not forget our teaching – another fantastically high satisfaction score of 93.8%, with an amazing 100% agreeing with “Staff are good at explaining things” and a fantastic 91% agreeing with “Staff have made the subject interesting”, “The course is intellectually stimulating” and “My course has challenged me to achieve my best work”.

It’s time to celebrate so we’re off to pop the cork….. Thank you to all of our fantastic students for taking part in the NSS survey, for their kind comments and for being such a vital and vibrant core of our great creative writing community.
