The first Creative Writing community workshop at University of Gloucestershire
19th August 2024
On Thurs 15 August, eleven lovely writers from our local community joined us for our first ever free community workshop (and, we hope, the first of many!)
Led by the Creative Writing lecturers Duncan and Senja, as well as the amazing Scott Editorial Chief Editor Amy Scott and our brilliant PhD student Tom Bennett, the workshop focused on plot, structure, characters and the general magic of storytelling 🙂
We discussed creative writing theory, guided our writers through a number of exercises, and looked at examples ranging from thrillers like Lisa Jewell’s Then She Was Gone through to literary masterpieces such as Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go. The day was very practical and hands-on, with some excellent discussion from the participants.
We even got to enjoy a very tasty vegan lunch!
Hopefully this workshop will be the first of many free events we hope to organise on a regular basis throughout the year. To stay informed, drop us an email on sandrejevic@glos.ac.uk and we’ll let you know when the next workshop is planned to take place.
