It’s September again :-)

It’s September time again and that means that we’re all back on campus or, if you’re a first year student, then you’ve just embarked on a whole new chapter of your life.

Either way, we welcome you aboard and hope you will have a very happy academic year ahead of you.

Read on to see what our staff and students have been up to over the last few weeks, in-between trying to keep dry in all that crazy rain!!

Some news from our end:

Our second year student, Giorgia Caso, has recently completed a work placement with The History Press, an independent publishing house based in Cheltenham, specialising in non-fiction. As an intern, she had the opportunity to shadow and assist the Rights Manager. One of her responsibilities was to check contracts for translation or audio rights, and she got to attend exciting meetings about potential sales of film and TV rights for a book!

Giorgia said: ‘The most interesting thing I have learnt is that there are so many roles behind a publishing house that I wasn’t aware of, such as a Rights Manager, who is in contact with other publishing houses and other companies all around the world. I also thought for some reason that every role works on its own but it isn’t the case, as most roles work together to ensure that everything turns out well, from the manuscript sent to editorial to the book cover created by the designers, to even the final book advertised thanks to sales and marketing.’

Well done, Giorgia, we’re sure the work placement will help you in your future ambition to work in the publishing industry!
