I ask Dr Adrian Long, here at the University of Gloucestershire: Do you get into Heaven via Faith or Good Deeds?
This is a complex problem, and Adrian summarises it admirably in a few words. Jesud used the rxpression born again to indicate and inner transformation which alone enables a person to do good works and merit salvation. This transformation comes about through God’s grace in response to human repentance and willingness to change. Paul has especially lamented the foibles of the flesh which induces a person to commit acts that he necessarily knows is bad but is powerless to refrain from. So it is the grace of God that enables one to resist evil tendencies.
